Meet Darryn Wilkie

Darryn's experience in the construction and financial sectors is over 25 years, encompassing a wide range of roles and projects across New Zealand, the UK and Canada.

From successfully growing Landmark Homes Central Otago to over $9M in turnover and leading teams in various management roles, to optimising supply chains for a national commercial construction company with a $200M turnover, Darryn has consistently delivered results and gained an in-depth understanding of the construction world.

Darryn’s practical experience, combined with his education as an Economist and Registered Quantity Surveyor and involvement with the NZIQS Otago Board, lead to the beginning of Quantity Solutions. Darryn uses his experience in costing, budget control, and contract management, alongside his passion for building strong relationships, to deliver quantity surveying services that ensure your project's financial success and timely delivery.

What is a quantity surveyor (QS)? What do they do?

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is a vital part of any building project and is responsible for measuring the value of construction projects from concept to completion.

Measure and estimate the cost of resources for construction projects and manage the commercial (financial and contractual) aspects of all building and infrastructure projects.

How do QS’s provide value add for their clients?

a) Quantifying and costing the construction of building and engineering works for feasibility studies.

b) Preparing tenders and tender documentation.

c) Managing contract cost from end to end through to the final account.

d) Valuing for insurance and/or asset life planning purposes, rental reviews, maintenance and tax schedules.

As a general guideline, service and consultancy fees range from $150 to $200 hour + GST.

d) Timely replies to questions and decision making.

What is a QS sometimes referred to?
